After a very short break in our newly launched Boy’s Toy’s category, Daily Reviews have decided to jump back on the saddle (or not) depending how you look at our next review, since it doesn’t have a saddle. Once again we are taking a look at some manual transportation modes and up for review today is yet another kick-scooter. With the popularity of both the Xootr and SwiftyAir scooters, we couldn’t wait to bring yet more fun and games to Daily Reviews. Introducing the Micro Scooter Black.
The iconic, award winning Micro Scooter will redefine the way you think about modern transportation. This slick, top-of-the-range scooter is robust, fast and stylish, perfect for using as part of the journey to work or making your way through the city.
Ergonomically designed for superior comfort, the Micro Black Scooter features a low deck to lessen the strain on your back. The premium, large wheels allow you to scoot faster and further with minimum effort. At Micro Scooters we know that appearance matters, that’s why our illustrious Micro Scooter features a front mud guard to offer your clothing some protection from dirt.
The Micro Scooter is a stylish, modern scooter that’s biggest attribute is the esteemed swiss engineering that boasts a fold-able design structure for easy transportation and storage. The folding mechanism adapted by the Micro Black see’s it’s overall size reduce to a a mere 74 x 12.7 x 30cms. Re-inventing the commuting scene, manual transportation is taking off on a big way and as such companies such as Micro Scooters are changing the way people think about scooters, offering them a more professional mode of transport.
The body of the Micro Scooter consists of an all aluminium frame, which not only brings incredible durability, but is very lightweight offering an overall weight of a mere 4.7KGs. In terms of usage, the Micro Scooter black is suitable for children aged 10yrs through to adults with a maximum weight of 95KGs (15stone, 7lbs).
Aptly named, the Micro Black is finished in an all matt black paint job with flashes of orange and blue in the form of the Micro logo sitting on the handlebar stem and deck. Available in three other colour variations: White, floral grey and floral white, the Micro scooter can be adapted for both male and female owners. The handlebars themselves are fully adjustable in terms of height, allowing an overall adjustment from 2ft 4in (72cm) to 3ft 4in (103cm). Each handlebar is fitted with a durable foam handle-grips with rubberized end caps. As well as being a fold-able designed scooter, the Micro Black also features fold-able handle bars – so when not in use you can un-hinge them (using a click-button, pull out mechanism) and clip them into the convenient stem mounted gripper that sits just underneath the handlebars.
Unlike the Xootr and SwiftyAIR scooters we looked at recently, the Micro Black does not feature any front braking systems, instead it features a rear push type fender brake alongside a front mud-guard to protect your clothing during wet/muddy conditions. Micro Scooters are backed by their top quality Swiss design and engineering and as such literally every single part of the Micro scooter can be replaced. From a long term investment this is great as unlike other scooters whereby you would eventually find it more cost effective to purchase a whole new scooter, the Micro Black is good for many years. From bolt holder plates, to stems, through to wheels, brakes and even the plastic grip holder, every part is available to buy directly from Micro Scooters website – and for the novice user, there are full instructional video’s detailing almost every repair/maintenance job.
Speaking of wheels, the Micro Black features (alongside their flex deluxe scooter) the largest diameter wheel of all their adult scooter range, measuring a whopping 200mm. The wheels themselves are very resilient and solid, so unlike air-filled tyres they are puncture proof – again enhancing durability and lifespan. The tyres however are very smooth and so grip wise, they offer very little on that front – however as they are solid wheels they should offer better traction to the ground.
When it comes to the ground, a lower deck provides better riding comfort – easing pressure on the lower back. Increasing the kick efficiency means overall, you have to do less to move faster and so those achy joints should be a thing of the past. The Deck (similar to other scooters) is finished in a non-slip grip tape – with the Micro Scooters logo emblazoned across the middle of it. Size wise the Micro Black deck measures 41 x 12.7cms so is more than ample for even the largest of feet. Sitting just underneath the deck is a spring loaded kickstand – allowing you to stand your scooter upright.
The Micro Scooter Black does exactly what it says on the packet and then some. Offering city and country commuters a stylish, quality constructed mode of manual transportation. In terms of actual usage, the Micro Black is a perfectly matched smooth pavement partner. With the lowered deck and grip-less wheel type, stable and even ground allowed the Micro Black to live up to it’s Swiss engineering and build, providing plenty of speed with minimal effort. Flipping the coin, when it comes to more rugged (and dare i say battered and bruised) road types, the Micro Black while taking things in it’s stride does provide a more interesting commute. The smooth/solid tyres tend to enhance every stone/crack/crevice within the ground beneath and while for the most part handles it well, it is a little bit of a bumpy ride. In addition (and while we are still talking about the wheels), the grip-less tyres are better suited to drier conditions. While they offer fantastic ground traction, they offer very little in the way of major grip and so wetter conditions can be a bit of trial and error. From a storage and portability point of view, the Micro Black is an absolute gem, the collapsible frame was effortless and easy to fold up and down in a hurry. When completely folded the Micro Black takes up very little floor space and so can easily be popped in a cupboard or in the boot of a small car. With the no bikes/scooters rule on buses and trains, the Micro Black offers commuters a way of getting around town/country but with the convenience of being able to jump on to motor powered transportation easily and without any hassle at all.
The Micro Black is your all in one manual mode of transportation and while a few years back people would have stared and laughed at an adult zooming past on a scooter, however in today’s ‘expensive’ and fit fanatic society, bicycles and scooters are fast becoming more of a normal occurrence. Healthy living and exercise go hand in hand, and through portability, stylish, quality build scooters such as the Micro Black, it’s actually becoming a more popular way of burning the calories, keeping fit and getting to/from work without both the expense and hustle and bustle of public transport or lengthy road traffic jams.
The Micro Black differs somewhat from others scooters as Micro Scooters have ensured that once you have purchased your scooter, you don’t need to be worrying about when you’ll need to replace the whole thing. They’ve ensured that every aspect/part of your new scooter can be replaced at minimal cost, therefore when buying a Micro Black you buy a scooter that will last you years.
If i had to be critical of anything, it would be the tyres, yes they work and for the most part work well, however i would love to see additional tyre types made available to purchase, perhaps some designed specifically for wet weather, icy conditions and the like. This is just a personal preference and certainly nothing i would mark the scooter down for, because on the whole the Micro Black does exactly what it says on the tin.
