With Christmas fast approaching and all those lovely and very expensive gadgets start making their way under the bed and hiding away at the back of wardrobes, hoping the kids don’t catch a glimpse. If you don’t already have a security system in place, it’s certainly the right time of the year to either start thinking or doing something about it. One such company that knows how to do security is Swann. Swann is the world’s no.1 brand in DIY surveillance. As a world leader in DIY home security, Swann is constantly bringing the latest and most advanced technology to their security cameras and DVR systems. Swann own a range of DIY home security systems to suit every budget, whether for home or business. Up for review today is a security system i would class as one of their smaller surveillance systems, however small doesn’t necessarily mean just that. Swann is good at bringing big performance to small packages and the DVR4-1500 we are reviewing today is one of those items. Featuring a small compact footprint, the DVR4-1500 is a 4-channel digital video recorder that comes with a healthy 320GB hard drive pre-installed alongside web and smartphone viewing abilities.
As always, the product description taken direct from the Swann website product page:

Protect your home and business from the palm of your hand!
The DVR4-1500 is one of our favourite product types in that it’s completely plug and play. When it comes to security in general, people with less technical knowledge, are put off by the sheer amount of groundwork that needs to be laid to get up and running. With the Swann DVR4-1500 the groundwork is already laid, just connect up, switch on and install your software, it really is that easy.
The package as a whole includes everything you need, and we love how complex but at the same time how simple the SwannView pro dashboard is to navigate/control. In no time at all even the most novice of CCTV users will be chopping and changing settings like a pro and with complete ease. They’ll be wondering why they didn’t get a Swann security system earlier. The dashboard is very intuitive and works like a charm, not at all over-whelming and runs very smooth.
THE DVR4-1500 itself is a good starter package and despite its small size, it packs some great features. With both a night and daytime viewing and an incredible 65ft recording ability and with 60 degree viewing angle, the DVR4-1500 is a small camera that doesn’t shy away from offering up some quality specifications. The recorded video clips are of an adequate quality – though not perfect, they are acceptable and for the price point this system falls within, you do get a lot of other quirks that make up for the slightly lower quality picture/video result.
Other features that make the DVR4-1500 an all-round decent package includes the pre-installed 320GB hard drive alongside upgrade possibilities. Not only have Swann allowed for up to 2Tb worth of hard drive to be installed, they have provided you with the option if upgrading this unit to a fully fledged extensive security system with the option to add in 3 more cameras – so as your business grow, so can your security camera. And if you are feeling slightly wary, Swann have bought this system bang up to date by offering remote viewing of your connected cameras through the android and iOS apps.
Picture/video quality could be better
